The SKWC continues to climb as No. 14 Rutgers wrestling earned Big Ten Conference wins over No. 21 Indiana and Purdue over the weekend. The Scarlet Knights are now 9-1 this season and can move to 3-0 in the Big Ten for the first time in program history with a win Friday at Michigan State.
No. 14 Wrestling Collects 26-13 Road Win at Purdue
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 14 Rutgers wrestling (9-1, 2-0) moved to 2-0 in the Big Ten Conference after its 26-13 win at Purdue (5-4, 0-1) on Sunday in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Scarlet Knights picked up six wins over the Boilermakers, which included a fall from No. 27 Jackson Turley (174) and tech falls from No. 7 John Poznanski (197) and No. 8 Dylan Shawver (133).
With the win, RU has started each of the past two seasons with 9-1 records, as Rutgers now owns two conference wins and three over foes receiving votes in the NWCA Coaches Poll – No. 21 Indiana, RV Cal Poly and RV Penn.
The dual began with an non-traditional start at heavyweight, as No. 7 Yaraslau Slavikouski worked a 14-2 major decision to give Rutgers a 4-0 lead out of the gate.
No. 13 Dean Peterson (125) followed with his highly-anticipated matchup against No. 2 Matt Ramos, holding last year’s national runner up to a 4-1 loss.
Shawver was up next against Jacob Macatangay and collected bonus with a 20-5 tech fall. It was Shawver’s second tech of the weekend, giving the Scarlet Knights a 9-3 lead through three bout.
Devon Britton (141) wrestled up a weight in his 4-1 loss to Greyson Clark before Michael Cetta (149) collected a 5-0 decision to help Rutgers to a 12-6 lead at intermission.
Purdue picked up wins at 157 and 165 pounds to go up in the dual, 13-12, for the first time on the afternoon, but RU would quickly put a stop to the Boilermakers’s run with three straight wins to end the afternoon. Turley recorded a 25-second pin against Brody Bauman, No. 21 Brian Soldano added a decision and Poznanski teched Ben Vanadia to secure the 26-13 win.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 14 Rutgers wrestling (8-1, 1-0) picked up its sixth consecutive win after its 30-11 victory over No. 21 Indiana (3-1, 0-1) on Friday night in front of 3,145 fans at Jersey Mike’s Arena. The Scarlet Knights worked a 7-3 match split with the Hoosiers in their Big Ten Conference open, as No. 8 Dylan Shawver (133), No. 13 Dean Peterson (125), No. 21 Brian Soldano (184), No. 27 Jackson Turley (174) and Al DeSantis (157) all secured bonus points.
RU is now 8-1 through its first nine duals for the second consecutive season ahead of Sunday’s dual at Purdue. Rutgers owns three wins over programs who have received recognition in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll this season – No. 21 Indiana, RV Cal Poly and RV Penn. The Scarlet Knights’ 30 points on the Hoosiers marked the first time RU has put up 30 or more team points against a ranked opponent since it joined the Big Ten in 2014.
Turley secured the biggest win of the night – a 15-0 tech fall over No. 9 Donnell Washington. Peterson pinned his opponent for his second fall of the season, Shawver teched an NCAA qualifier and DeSantis and Soldano added major decisions.
“I am fired up about this win,” said head coach Scott Goodale. “I love our team. I really do. I love our team. I have said it from day one we are going to have a lot of fun. There is going to be ups and downs. It is a brutal conference. I am serious when I say we are just thinking about Sunday. We’re thinking about Sunday.”
