Anthony Ashnault’s first senior-level outing since winning an NCAA title and signing on as a full time SKWC resident athlete went about as well as a debut can go: three techs and a pin en route to the 70 kg freestyle gold medal at the Pan Am Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Defeating opponents from Canada, Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, Ashnault now qualifies for the Team USA World Team Trials to be held May 17th-19th in Raleigh, NC.
Ashnault was not alone among his countrymen in dominating the tournament- the American squad (which included mainstays Jordan Burroughs, David Taylor, Kyle Snyder and J’den Cox as well as fellow newcomers Colton McCrystal and Chandler Rodgers among others) went a perfect 34-0 on the weekend, securing 10 titles.
Ashnault will next compete in Grapple at the Garden May 6th against James Green.
