Dear BOOM CLUB members, Rutgers Fans, SKWC Supporters, and all Wrestling fans:
The last few weeks have been quite challenging with the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. First and foremost, I hope that you and your family are safe and healthy. The last few weeks have been quite stressful for everyone.
The cancellation of the NCAA wrestling tournament was a big disappointment for our wrestlers, coaches, and fans. At the same time we recognize that the health and well being of everyone is most important. The feeling of the Rutgers team is best reflected in a note I received from senior Jordan Pagano.
“Thank you Rutgers fans for your continued support. It has certainly been a sad day for me. Although I’m sad to see it end like this, I’m super proud of everything I’ve accomplished and the way the fans, the student athletes, and Rutgers has embraced me along the way. Ultimately, I can find peace and light in all of this. I am forever grateful that I had the privilege to put that block R on my chest!”
For Jordan and our entire team, the last week has been a disappointment. But, it is not a tragedy as they are more than wrestlers and coaches. Our coaches are true educators and dedicated to developing outstanding future leaders. Our wrestlers learn life lessons everyday and these lessons will enable them to represent Rutgers with pride throughout their lives.
Your financial support, loud voices at the matches, attendance at SKWC events, and efforts to secure internships for our wrestlers make a difference. We are so fortunate to have the best fans in the land.
In the last week, I have received a number of questions regarding the SKWC’s future plans.
Yes, the PIN POOL is still open. Supporters can pledge through March 25th. To do so, please click on the following link here! The team ended the year with 54 pins.
While USA Wrestling has postponed the Olympic Trials due to the coronavirus, Nick Suriano, Anthony Ashnault, Tyler Graf, and Patrick Downey qualified for the Olympic Trials. We will provide updates on how to support these wrestlers as information becomes available.
Consistent with CDC guidelines, the annual SKWC banquet for the wrestling team has been cancelled. We are considering various alternatives to honor and thank our student athletes.
The SKWC is reflecting on how to be more supportive of our students, coaches, and members. We will enhance our mentoring program and consider events that are responsive to the diverse interests of our members. These events include a Topgolf Outing, a Summer Social at the Jersey Shore, Wine Tasting and Dinner events, and Community Service events with our wrestlers. Please reach out to Jason Newcomb ([email protected]), Dante Puorro ([email protected]) or me with your suggestions, ideas, and your desire to volunteer.
Looking forward, we have more to accomplish. We have come a long way and are committed to reaching the top. The success of Rutgers Wrestling would not have occurred without our super fantastic fans. With your continued advice, guidance, financial support, and involvement we will achieve our dreams of winning the National Title.
