Brian Murphy, a four-time NCAA qualifier and 2015 All-American at the University of Michigan, begins his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with Rutgers Wrestling. Murphy served as an undergraduate assistant coach last year at UM prior to his arrival “On the Banks”.
Murphy collected 75 varsity wins during his time in Ann Arbor from 2013-17, which included four consecutive trips to nationals as a Wolverine. As a sophomore in 2014-15, Murphy wrestled to a 30-12 mark and a seventh-place finish at NCAAs, as he secured his place as an All-American at 157 pounds.
The Carol Stream, Illinois, native placed all four years at the Big Ten Championships and picked up a bronze medal at the event as a junior.
Murphy graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
